Commodity Export Glossary
Key terms and definitions for rice, sugar, fertilizer, and international trade.
Quick Answer: This glossary defines essential terms used in agricultural commodity export — including ICUMSA 45 white sugar wholesale, Thai jasmine rice (Hom Mali) export, fertilizer types, and international shipping Incoterms — to help importers understand product specifications.
- ICUMSA
- The International Commission for Uniform Methods of Sugar Analysis — a global standard for measuring sugar color and purity. Lower ICUMSA numbers indicate whiter, more refined sugar.
- ICUMSA 45
- Premium white refined cane sugar with ICUMSA color rating of 45 or below. Widely used in food, beverage, and confectionery industries for its high purity and fine crystal structure.
- Thai Hom Mali
- Also known as Jasmine rice — a premium long-grain aromatic rice variety native to Thailand, prized for its floral fragrance, soft texture, and export demand across global markets.
- Basmati Rice
- A long-grain aromatic rice variety. 1121 Sella Basmati refers to parboiled Basmati with extended grain length (8.2–8.4 mm), popular for biryanis and premium rice dishes.
- NPK Fertilizer
- Compound fertilizer containing nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K). NPK ratios such as 15-15-15 indicate the percentage of each nutrient, tailored to crop and soil requirements.
- Urea
- A nitrogen fertilizer (CO(NH₂)₂) with up to 46% nitrogen — the highest among solid nitrogen fertilizers. Used in agriculture as base or top-dress fertilizer and in automotive DEF/AdBlue systems.
- DAP
- Diammonium Phosphate — a widely used phosphorus fertilizer providing both nitrogen and phosphorus. Applied as base fertilizer to improve root development and crop yield.
- Parboiled Rice
- Rice partially boiled in the husk before milling. The parboiling process drives nutrients into the grain, producing firmer, separate grains with higher nutritional retention.
- FOB
- Free On Board — an Incoterm where the seller delivers goods on board the vessel at the port of shipment. The buyer assumes freight and insurance costs from that point.
- CIF
- Cost, Insurance, and Freight — an Incoterm where the seller covers shipping and insurance to the destination port. The buyer takes responsibility upon arrival at port.
- MOQ
- Minimum Order Quantity — the smallest volume a supplier will accept for a wholesale or export order. MOQ varies by product, packaging, and shipping method.
- COA
- Certificate of Analysis — a document confirming a product meets specified chemical and physical quality parameters, typically issued per batch for export commodities.
- VHP Sugar
- Very High Polarization sugar — raw or semi-refined cane sugar with polarization above 99.4%, used as input for further refining or in specific industrial applications.
- Glutinous Rice
- Also called sticky rice — a short-grain rice variety high in amylopectin starch, producing a sticky, cohesive texture when cooked. Used in Asian desserts, sushi, and rice cakes.
- HACCP
- Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points — a systematic food safety management framework identifying and controlling biological, chemical, and physical hazards in production.
